White is the New Gray
Don't get me wrong, I love gray. It may be yesterday but I definitely love a gray wall, piece of furniture, or cabinet. It's a great neutral that works with so many complimentary colors. But in staging, there is a great argument for going with white.
White walls brighten rooms as well. Bathrooms and kitchens look crisp and clean with white. It provides a fresh start for buyers to add their own favorite colors. One of the first things I look at when touring homes for sale, is wall color. Once in a while, I think, "Wow, this green wall is so cool. But then quickly realize it won't work with my furnishings." While a white or off-white wall may seem boring at first glance, I know it's not hard nor expensive to paint an accent wall or perhaps the entire room. I've also learned it sometimes a good idea to actually live in a space for a bit before changing the paint color.
Some great choices for white walls that are top picks by Home Stagers for 2018 are by Benjamin Moore. Here's a list of the top five favorites.
1. Chantilly Lace
2. White Dove
3. Simply White
4. Cloud White
5. Decorators White.
And one of my personal favorites is Swiss Coffee. It's a warm white that works well in almost any space.
I guess white goes with my All You Need is Les philosophy - less color = greater potential for a successful sale.
